How It Started
My first exposure to beekeeping came in childhood when my father kept bees for several years. I was fascinated by the colonies and eager to be involved in every inspection. One of my earliest memories is witnessing my first swarm — an unforgettable experience that was both intimidating and incredible at the time. Seeing thousands of bees take flight at once left a lasting impression and sparked a long-term interest in how colonies function.
Although my father eventually stepped away from beekeeping, that early hands-on experience stayed with me and laid the groundwork for what would later become my profession.
Learning the Science of Beekeeping
I returned to beekeeping in high school when a mentor, Paul Tabor, launched a bee club that introduced students to practical hive management and bee biology. Through this program, I began learning not just how to work bees, but why colonies succeed or fail. I developed a strong foundation in brood development, swarm behavior, colony health, and seasonal management.
With guidance and mentorship, I started managing my own colonies and learning swarm collection and field skills. Paul gave me a couple of colonies and also taught me how to hunt for swarms. From that point forward, I invested most of my free time into expanding my knowledge and working directly with bees.
From Side Work to Full-Time Calling
After high school, I initially pursued aviation in college. During that time, income from my beekeeping work helped support my expenses. As my apiary grew, I began to see that beekeeping was more than a side pursuit — it was a viable long-term path.
After careful consideration and prayer, I made the decision to step away from aviation and pursue beekeeping full time. Since then, God has opened doors for the operation to continue to grow steadily each season.
Our Operation Today
I currently manage approximately 200 colonies, with continued expansion planned. The apiary focuses on:
- Strong, productive colonies
- Carefully selected queen genetics
- Sustainable growth practices
- Reliable colony and nuc production
- Quality honey harvests
- Swarm capture and structural cut-out services
- Future crop pollination services
Each colony is managed with close attention to health, temperament, and performance. The goal is to produce bees and hive products that customers and fellow beekeepers can depend on.
